Walking the Cross Country Course

Be prepared to walk your course several times. First with your trainer to discuss all the options and be sure to pay close attention to the footing. Notice if the terrain is flat or uneven between the fences. Take particular care to imagine riding the course in your mind, notice how to approach and leave each fence. Remember you want to land and go.

The second time around, walk alone and analyze the situation again. Take notes and discuss strategy and questions with your trainer before riding. Also, if possible watch how the course is riding. You can avoid silly mistakes if you prepare and focus on your ride.
