Eventing Results at the World Equestrian Games 2006
The results for Eventing at the WEG are in, Zara Phillips, the British Royal member of team Great Britain won the individual gold with a final score of 41.7. She retained her first place postion after dressage by posting clear rounds cross country and stadium jumping aboard her partner Toy Town. Zara is the daughter of Princess Ann and Mark Phillips who serves as the Chef D’Equipe for the US team.
Australia’s Cayton Fredericks on Ben Along Time won the silver medal with a clear show jumping round and only a few penalty points for time on the cross country course.
The Bronze medal was won by the US member, Amy Tryon aboard her long time partner, Poggio II. They came into the show jumping phase in seventh place, climbing the leader board to capture third by posting a clean round under the time allowed to finish on her dressage score of 50.7. I have had the pleasure to watch this pair jump effortlessly around Rolex in Kentucky a few times and am not at all surprised to see them at the top of the podium. Poggio is an interesting horse, he is currently 14 years old, formerly a race horse and pack horse in Washington State. Amy is a firefighter who discovered his hidden talents and has trained him to be one of the best eventing horses of all time.
Team USA finished fourth overall, a mere eith tenths of one point off the medal podium with a score of 198.1. Germany won the Gold, Great Britain took the Silver and Australia took the Bronze.
The USA team also included Will Faudree and Antigua, Kim Severson and Winsome Adante, and Heidi White and Norther Spy. Karen O’Conner and Upstage and Jan Byyny and Task Force competed as individuals.
